International School of Zanzibar Overview

ISZ’s Mission Statement To provide balanced and innovative international education that enable students to achieve their individual potentials, while preparing them to be successful citizens who make positive contributions to society and the world. About the International School of Zanzibar The International School of Zanzibar (ISZ) is a small, exceptional school set on an idyllic spacious campus with views of the breathtaking Indian Ocean. Just a short drive from the campus is the Stone Town of Zanzibar which is an outstanding example of a Swahili coastal trading town and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. ISZ is a NGO school that is committed totransformational and authentic learning through community outreach projects with the aim of making positive contributions to the world outside of the classroom walls. Although ISZ is a small school with just over 200 students it has a diverse student body representing 36 different nationalities with an equally diverse faculty where their 18 teachers come from 12 different countries. ISZ celebrates diversity as one of their uniting strengths. SZ offers an excellent education to the island’s populous and expatriate alike, from Nursery through to IGCSE level. The school runs a “Reggio Emilia- inspired” early childhood program, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC)for Year 2-6 students, the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) for Year 7-9 students and IGCSE’s for Year 10-11 students. For the 2016-2017 academic year ISZ will be introducing an “Innovative Learning Technologies” project where ISZ will be one of the leading schools in East Africa in regards to the new educational paradigm where students become active creators and contributors to the construction of new knowledge. This will be most apparent in their project-based and challenge-based learning projects that will directly benefit the wider local community through their esteemed NGO status.
